Compass is an information service. Municipalities advertise tax sales to recover unpaid property taxes. We monitor those public notices, record what we find, and present it so you can search and research without visiting every municipal website yourself.
Minimum prices are set differently in each province. A minimum price is not a forecast of the final price: properties are commonly sold as-is, inspection access may be limited, title and occupancy risks apply, and every material fact must be verified with the municipality that published the notice.

We are not the auctioneer. We are not the municipality. We do not collect deposits, open tenders, or transfer title. Every sale is run under the rules of the municipality that published it.
We monitor municipal tax sale notices and related official sources. Our systems update the database on a daily cadence. Status labels (active, sold, inactive, withdrawn) reflect what we believe the notice said when we last recorded it.
Sale terms can change after we scrape them. Last-minute cancellations happen. Always verify dates, deposits, minimum amounts, and instructions with the municipality before you spend money or submit a bid or tender.

We publish the counts we actually hold — not a marketing total. Province and municipality totals change as notices appear, close, or leave the file. Counts are live; refresh them at the moment you publish or cite them.
A province missing from a snapshot on this page has no tax sale we have found posted right now. That is not a forever statement. British Columbia and other provinces may appear on the file when municipal notices are present. When a municipality publishes a notice we can record, listings for that place appear in search and on the relevant province or city pages.

Process varies by municipality. Alberta tax recovery sales are public auctions (Municipal Government Act, section 418(1)); in Ontario the treasurer chooses public auction or public tender (Municipal Act, 2001, section 379(2)). Other provinces and municipalities use their own statutes and local practice. Redemption rights (where they exist), notice periods, and title timelines also differ — confirm with the municipal notice and the provincial statute that applies.
